Super Mario Sunburn is a utility game mod for the three-dimensional platformer, Super Mario Sunshine. The mod was created by an independent developer, Epicwade123. It turns the regular action environment into an open-world game. This mod will allow you to freely travel from stage to stage and collect shines out of order. It does this by offering more missions than the original game. With more stages, you can collect around 30 to 60 more coins per stage.
Super Mario Sunburn is a good mod for those that have played Super Mario Sunshine. The mod allows you to explore pre-assembled and customized stages without having to follow a particular order. Note that the customized changes were created by Epicwade123, and not for players. The game has three new custom changes that you can access. Traveling freely from stage to stage allows you to collect shines out of order.
It is an improvement of the original game that does not require a bootup per shine. You will remain in the stage you’re in, and not have to worry about going back to the hub. Blue coins are also available in multiple acts, making the random order of stages more beneficial. The more shines you have the more chances of you unlocking special patches like the Corona Mountain and Shadow Mario.
For the Corona Mountain patch, you will need to collect 70 shines and defeat the Shadow Mario in all stages. Other updates include the restoration of the ciao audio clip and the Shadow Mario health bar, the hover nozzle can now move in ceilings, and the cut scenes can be skipped. Altogether, these are few additions to the original game but you will have more flexibility in playing the game.
Super Mario Sunburn is an excellent mod for those that want to continue playing the 3D platformer game. You will have more space to roam around; the open-world environment allows you to play casually while the random stages help you progress much faster than you normally would. The mod does not make Mario stronger, but it opens up more opportunities to collect more rewards in the game.
